Treat yourself or someone you love to these Tosa yummies

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…

A partridge in a pear tree

Cozy up to the bar at Lucky Joe’s for a house craft cocktail. The Grow a Pear is a spicy-sweet concoction of ancho chili liqueur, spiced pear, lime and sugar.

Lucky Joe’s – 1427 Underwood Avenue

Two turtle doves

A cup of coffee on a cold December morning hits the spot. Anodyne’s Turtle is a classic café mocha made with your choice of whole, skim, oat, almond or soy milk and blended with a caramel syrup. If you are feeling really decadent, the barista will add a dollop of whipped cream over the top.

Anodyne Coffee – 7471 Harwood Avenue

Three French hens

At Le Rêve, order the chicken, pheasant or duck before you splurge on one of the many taunting sweets prominently displayed in the glass dessert case. Pictured above is the Paris Brest, made with hazelnut and Chantilly creams.

Le Rêve Patisserie & Café – 7610 Harwood Avenue

Four calling birds

How about a glass of cabernet sauvignon such as this Australian offering, the blue wren on its label a sign of coming rain and good fortune? Pop into Ruby Tap this holiday season to taste from one of the neighborhood wine bar’s self-serve wine machines.

Five gold rings

It’s tough to stop with just one of Cranky’s oh-so-pillowy glazed raised doughnuts. A classic joint in East Tosa, Cranky Al’s has been making the doughnuts (including vegan and gluten-free) since 2006.

Cranky Al’s – 6901 W. North Avenue

Six geese a-laying

Stock up on Grey Goose vodka at Ray’s Wine & Spirits. Bloody Marys for brunch, martinis for your holiday party, White Russians while curling up in front of a fire — the possibilities are endless.

Ray’s Wine & Spirits – 8930 W. North Avenue

Seven swans a-swimming

Swan Boulevard’s sunny luncheonette, Miss Molly’s Cafe & Pastry Shop, features a full menu for breakfast and lunch. A word of warning — passing the counter without seeing and smelling an array of enticing fresh baked goods and pastries is impossible. The vegan mini chocolate berry bundt cake is just one of the temptations.

Miss Molly’s Cafe & Pastry Shop – 9201 W. Center Street

Eight maids a-milking

Fool yourself into believing that you are getting your daily dose of calcium with Big Head Brewing’s Milk Stout. One of eight beers on tap, the Milk Stout is a tasty, sweet brew with hints of chocolate and hazelnut.

Big Head Brewing Company – 6204 W. State Street

Nine ladies dancing

Not only is their chocolate heavenly, but it is also artfully molded into novelty items like ballerinas. Ultimate Confections has moved down the street to the Northeastern corner of 68th and Wells Streets. Same mouthwatering sweets, new location.

Ultimate Confections – 820 N. 68th Street

Ten lords a-leaping

Where else would you find leaping lords than in a pub drinking English ales? The Lion’s Tail is a newcomer to the Tosa microbrewery scene. One of 27 options in the Tosa taproom, the Lion & the Fox was brewed in collaboration with Mequon’s Foxtown Brewing using all English malts and yeast.

Lion’s Tail – 8520 W. North Avenue

Eleven pipers piping

A piping bag and frosting recipe, along with gingerbread pieces already sized and shaped and candy pieces for decorating, are included in Black Twig’s gingerbread kits. Wow your holiday guests with your creativity or just have fun with the kiddos this Christmas season.

Black Twig Bakery – 1455 Underwood Avenue

Twelve drummers drumming

Chicken wings — and drumsticks, too — are one of the favorites at Leff’s Lucky Town. Flavors include mild, medium, ass-kickin’, bbq, cajun bbq, garlic parmesan, teriyaki, naked and an additional special flavor every Tuesday.
