A local group of volunteers is striving to create a memorial in Hart Park to honor the men and women who have served in the armed forces. Made up of representatives from local VFW Posts 1465, 6498 and 8320, the Wauwatosa Veterans Memorial committee has selected a site just east of the football stadium where the community can reflect, remember, and enjoy their surroundings.
The Wauwatosa Veterans Memorial will feature a beautiful stone monument highlighting each of the six branches of the United States military. In addition, a flag court will showcase the various branches plus the American flag. Personalized, inscribed bricks purchased by the community to honor loved ones who have served, plus beautiful landscaping and benches, will complete the design.
“This Memorial is so much more than a physical space. It’s our humble attempt to honor those ‘unsung’ heroes who have dedicated a portion of their lives in the service of our country,” said Alex Kaleta, volunteer, and US Army Veteran.
The volunteer group are now more than 50% funded for the project and are looking to the local community and businesses to help make this dream a reality.
Sponsorships are available, in addition to the purchase of customized bricks for your loved one(s). The State of WI VFW Foundation is serving as the repository for donations received and is a 501c3 charitable organization, so all contributions are tax-deductible.
