Hello Tosa:
Are you lingering in the sunshine, stopping to smell the flowers and wiggling your toes in sandals? You’ve got spring fever. Me too. Warm weather increases my desire get outside and get active. Moments like these remind me how lucky I am to live in Wauwatosa.
Lucky, because Tosa is a community with access to beautiful parks and open space along the river with many walking and biking trails. We have access to fresh produce at two Farmer’s Markets, in The Village and Hartung Park and more healthy food store options than ever before. And we have easy access to health care with world-class hospitals, clinics and research facilities located at the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center.
Wauwatosa is a healthy community and we want to make it even better. You can help us do that by getting involved in the new initiatives that will be coming this year through our Public Health Department’s Healthy Wauwatosa program.
We’re lucky because Tosa has it all.
Plan on walking or biking to The Village area this spring and summer. Construction begins on State Street to upgrade water and sewer pipes and create a new, more pedestrian-friendly plaza. Businesses will be open and outdoor events and activities will happen. Try out the new trail connecting the east and west side of Tosa in the Menomonee River Parkway.
Look for healthy menu choices as new restaurants open and current ones enhance their options. Look for Bubblr bike share stations to pop up. And look for the growth of the Safe Routes to School Program with more ways to encourage our kids to be active by walking and biking to school. Last year, the City invested in a new skatepark at Hart Park for our kids. This will be its first full year open.
We’re lucky because Tosa has it all. We have the bustle of activities with shopping and dining, but also quiet, rejuvenating places in parks and walks by the river. We have strong neighborhoods were we look out for each other. We have easy ways to get and stay active and eat healthy all year long.
Many of these changes are the results of you, the citizens who live in Tosa. Thank you! Together we can continue to build and grow our community to have an even better impact.
